Conventions & Tradeshows

A year of positioning, compressed into three days.

30 frames·Austin & anywhere the show is

Conferences and tradeshows are the one week your whole market is in one building. We cover the stage and the floor the way a newsroom would — the keynote, the panel, the booth, the handshake in the hallway that was the actual reason you came. Same-week turnaround, because the news value has a shelf life.

Start the conversation

The stage and the hallway, both.

Most conference coverage stops at the podium. The pictures that get used all year are the ones from the floor — the booth working, the panel laughing, the conversation nobody scheduled.

Chapter 01

The floor

A booth costs more than the photography by an order of magnitude. Shoot it while it's clean, staffed and busy — that's the asset the next show's deck is built from.

A row of lit product plinths and screens at the Motive booth on a convention expo floor.
Attendees walking the expo floor past the Motive stand at a tradeshow.
Delegates with lanyards moving through the entrance of the Motive exhibition stand.
A visitor browsing screens inside the Motive tradeshow booth.
A pair of guests holding coffee cups and smiling at a daytime networking reception.
Two delegates laughing mid-conversation at a bright daytime conference reception.
Chapter 02

The main stage

Dark room, lit screen, one take. Keynotes are the least forgiving light in this whole business and the most quoted picture afterwards.

A packed conference ballroom at round tables, blue-lit screens across the front wall.
A speaker on a red-lit stage addressing a silhouetted audience.
A keynote speaker with a handheld microphone against a magenta and blue gradient screen.
A speaker at a lectern beside a bright pink healthcare presentation slide.

We had the keynote deck, the booth and the panel photographed before the show closed. Marketing had the recap out while people were still in the airport.

Chapter 03

The lounge

The soft-set panel, the activation room, the side stage. Smaller, warmer, and increasingly where the interesting conversation actually happens.

The FQ Lounge set at SXSW — sofas, rug and a panel seated under a wood-panelled wall.
A speaker in a pale blazer presenting with a microphone at the FQ Lounge at SXSW.
A panelist in a leather jacket speaking into a microphone from a lounge sofa at SXSW.
