Brushy Creek Lake Park
A lake, a meadow, and about six weeks of blue.
Brushy Creek Lake Park in Cedar Park gives you two things at once: a lake with a boardwalk and a bridge at one end, and a long open meadow at the other that goes to bluebonnets and coreopsis in spring. That combination is unusual this far north — most parks give you water or grass, not both — and it is why one session here can look like two locations.
Bluebonnets run roughly late March into April. Everything else is year-round.

Walk one way and you are on a boardwalk over water. Walk the other and you are knee-deep in meadow with a treeline behind you. Nothing else on the north side does both.
Then the whole meadow goes blue.
Sit down in it. Bluebonnets are shorter than everyone expects, and standing up puts them at your ankles instead of around you.
She was fourteen and mostly deaf by then. We wanted one good spring with her in it and we got about a hundred.
