Family Portraits

One afternoon a year, everybody in the same frame.

27 frames·Austin — greenbelt, downtown, your front steps

Greenbelt water in November, the mural wall on South Congress, the same front steps every December. Family sessions work when nobody is asked to hold a smile for long — so we keep moving, we let the kids be four years old, and we make sure the grandparents are in more than one photo.

Family in town? Book the golden hour, not the middle of the day.

Nobody holds a smile for long.

The frames people keep are almost never the ones where everyone was looking at the lens. We get that one early so it's done, then spend the rest of the hour letting the family be itself.

A family of three with their baby in front of the 'i love you so much' mural on South Congress.

Chapter 01

In the water, in November

Central Texas creeks stay warm enough to wade into most of the year. Shoes come off within about four minutes and the session gets much better from there.

Chapter 02

Everyone in one frame

Extended family sessions are a logistics problem before they are a photography problem. We plan the groupings in advance so nobody stands around for forty minutes.

A family of four in coral and gold South Asian dress posed close together.
Three generations posed together in a garden, the grandfather in a shirt and tie.

A grandmother between her two grandchildren under an oak, all smiling.
An older couple standing together, her hand on his chest, both laughing.
