Kids' sessions go wrong the moment a child is told to sit still and smile. We shoot from their height, we let them run, and we get the real face — the one that appears about eleven minutes in, once they've decided we're not a threat. Studio, back garden, or knee-deep in a creek.

Every child needs about ten minutes to decide a stranger with a camera is harmless. We build that time into the session instead of spending it asking them to smile.

Eye level

Almost every photograph of a small child is taken from above, by an adult. Getting down to their height changes the picture completely.

The ones at home

The nursery wall, the first bike, the outfit they insisted on. Home sessions date better than a studio backdrop ever will.

Once a year, in the flowers

Texas gives you about three weeks of bluebonnets. Everyone books at once, so we go early and we go on a weekday.
