The Domain

A district built to be walked through at dusk.

15 frames·The Domain, north Austin

The Domain is north Austin's outdoor center — streets rather than a mall, with plaza planting, string light in the oaks and a wall of new build behind it. Everything here is lit deliberately, which makes the hour after sunset the point: the trees come up, the ground goes warm, and the whole district turns into a set somebody else paid to build. We shoot architecture, brand work, headshots and street here.

Wait for the lights to win.

There is a window of about twenty minutes when the sky is still blue and the string light is already reading. Everything good here happens inside it. Turn up an hour early and scout, because you do not get a second pass.

The commercial half

It is also a lot of advertising.

A green NBA All-Star Austin 2025 billboard mounted on a parking garage above a quiet street corner.
A lit retail frontage of marble and glass in The Domain after closing, nobody in the street

Retail frontage here is glass, stone and light on a timer. Shoot it after close and there is nobody in it.

We wanted it to look like the brand belonged in the city rather than pasted onto it. That is the whole reason we shot on location.
