School Activities

Schools mostly get photographed twice a year, from the back of a hall, by somebody in a hurry. We'd rather spend a day inside one: the classroom before anybody's in it, the desk where the actual work happens, the field at three-fifteen, and the friendships that are the real reason anyone remembers the year. Everything is shot with the school's own permissions and consent lists in hand.

A school year is mostly Tuesdays.
The assembly and the awards night are easy. What's worth having later is the ordinary week — and that only exists if somebody was there on an ordinary day.
Shot from inside the group rather than the doorway. From the back of the room you photograph the speaker; from here you photograph whether anyone is actually listening.
And then the bell goes.
Clubs, teams, and the twenty minutes of a Tuesday that a ten-year-old will still be able to describe in thirty years.
A school film has to survive being watched by the people in it. We cut for the students first and the prospectus second.
Nobody looks back at their school photographs for the school. They look for who they were standing next to.
