Round Rock Old Settlers Park
Six hundred acres, and the good half hour is at the end of it.
4 frames·Old Settlers Park, Round Rock, TX
Old Settlers is Round Rock's big park — ball fields, lakes, long paths and enough open ground that the sun goes all the way down to the horizon instead of behind a treeline. That is the whole reason to book it. Come at the end of the day, walk out past the sports, and you get low gold light with nothing in the way of it.

Come for the last half hour of light. There is a lot of park; we will tell you where to meet.

Most Austin parks put a treeline where the sun wants to be. This one does not, so the last light stays usable for a good twenty minutes after it would have gone anywhere else.

Backlit, wide open, no reflector. The park does it.

I have played softball there a hundred times and never once looked west.
