Wimberley TX
Cypress on the water, limestone underfoot, and a square you can walk in ten minutes.
11 frames·Wimberley, TX
Wimberley sits between Austin and San Marcos where Cypress Creek runs into the Blanco — big cypress along the banks, pale rock ledges to sit on, oaks and open pasture behind. It is far enough out to look like the Hill Country properly and close enough that a family drives down for an evening session and is home the same night.

About an hour southwest. Worth the drive for the cypress and the last light off the rock.
Start the conversationThe rock holds the light.
Limestone stays warm and pale long after the sun is off everything else, so the last twenty minutes here are usable in a way they are not on grass. Sit people on the ledge and let it do the work.

Down on the rock by the creek, cypress overhead. Nobody has to be told where to look.

The ring, on a hatband. Their idea.

We drove an hour with four kids under seven and I would do it again tomorrow.

Not every frame is a keeper for the wall, and this one is better than the ones that are.
