Butler Metro Park sits on the south side of Lady Bird Lake, looking straight back at downtown. It gives you water, a full skyline, shaded trail and open lawn within a few minutes' walk — which is why it takes more proposals, engagement sessions and formal portraits than almost anywhere else we shoot in Austin.

You can get an open skyline frame, a shaded trail and a quiet stretch of shoreline without moving the car. For a one-hour session that flexibility is the whole reason to come here.
The proposal spot
The boardwalk on this side of the water gives you a clean skyline behind the kneel and enough room to hide a photographer at a distance.
We wanted the skyline but not a hundred people walking through the shot. You knew exactly which end of the park to stand in.
The skyline does the work
Late light hits the towers across the water and bounces back warm. It's the easiest good background in the city.
