Texas State sits on a hillside in San Marcos, and the piece of it every graduate wants is the stone arch with the motto carved above — it frames the campus falling away behind you and turns a portrait into a photograph of the place. Add the maroon letters, the brick, and a hill that gives you height, and a grad session here can be done properly in under an hour.
Thirty minutes south. Graduation weekends there is a queue at the arch; we book around it.

My mother went here and has the same arch photograph from 1989. That was the whole point of driving down.
